Makhachkala, March 30, 2011. On March 27 the editorial office of the Informational Agency Tsumada.Ru hosted a seminar on the pressing issues of Ethnobiology. The deputy director of the Scientific Library DSU Gusen Halilullaev opened and led the event.







The seminar was attended by famous Polish anthropologist for the North Caucasus Yvon Kalishevsky and ethnobiologist Yvon Kolodzieyska from Warsaw University. The Russian side was represented by Ramazan Murtazaliev, the Head of Flora and Vegetation Laboratory of Dagestan Scientific Center RAS, Magomed Hajiyev, Ph.D., Associate Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry DSU Gusen Halilullaev and some others.







The scientific interests of Polish scientists include the practical use of medicinal herbs in different Dagestani regions and cities, meeting with experts and practitioners in the field. In particular, the Polish scientists get interested in the degree of popularity of herbal treatments for ailments mentioned in Islamic sources in medicine and how the population uses herbal folk methods as an alternative to scientific medicine.







Hajiyev delivered a detailed report on the history of medicinal plants and the use of black cumin in Dagestan. It worth mentioning that Hajiyev is engaged in research work on the study the medicinal properties of black cumin (Nigella Sativa) as well as aromatic herbs of the high-mountainous Dagestan.
